Biographical

For over 40 years Mr. Hagood has focused his practice in the areas of labor and employment discrimination., ERISA, and civil litigation; has extensive litigation experience in both state and federal courts at the trial and appellate levels, having tried a myriad of court cases, arbitrations, and administrative proceedings, arising under federal/state laws, including Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, ADEA, ADA, FLSA, FMLA, OSHA, ERISA, NLRB, FAA, and OFCCP.

In 1994 he was appointed by the Tennessee Supreme Court as a member of the Tennessee Board of Law Examiners, served as Secretary from 1994-2001 and President in 2002. For many years he was a contributing editor for the American Bar Association's annual publication "The Developing Labor Law", has authored various published articles in his field, including "Claims of Mental and Emotional Damages in Employment discrimination cases", "Employers Duty to Bargain Under the National Labor Relations Act", and "The Role of the Judiciary in Labor Arbitration". He also authored "A Brief History of the Tennessee Board of Law Examiners and the Standards for Bar Admissions in Tennessee", published in the 71 TN Law Review 971 (2004).

Mr. Hagood is the senior partner of his firm and practices full-time. He has served as a Private Arbitrator in various cases, including being jointly designated as Arbitrator in the CBA between Baptist Hospital of Knoxville and Union during a five year term of the Agreement. Following training, he is certified/approved as a Mediator by the federal and state Courts; has been selected by the parties and/or appointed by the Courts to mediate cases arising under both federal and state laws. He has successfully conducted hundreds of mediations over the last ten years.
